Oh, the Possibilities!

It's a funny thing.  We used to live on 9+ acres of land.  We had pets from time to time (dog, cat, rabbit) and shortly before we moved away we built a small chicken run.  We had a garden, too, but it wasn't until our final summer there that we started working with raised beds.   Now, we live on a .15 acre lot in the middle of town...and we seem to have more agricultural activity going on than ever!

Our 5 laying hens provide us with fresh eggs every day.  Josh calls them "gock gocks."

Our table grapes are flourishing on the trellis Keith built

Strawberries, peppers, heirloom tomatoes, cabbage, rhubarb, herbs, garlic, and lots of empty space waiting to be planted!  We also have yet to decide where to put our raspberries, peach, and cherry trees (Maybe in the front yard with our plum tress and blueberry bushes?)

Our two "teenage" chickens...one of Kate's friends got them as cute little Easter chicks and then had nowhere suitable to keep them as they grew bigger.  I'm not sure our arrangement is suitable, either, but....

The ducklings are growing, too!  They are a bit timid, and when I wanted to take a picture, they huddled in the corner and turned their faces away, just like uncooperative children.

Our small backyard greenhouse is still a work in progress, as we debate the pros and cons of aquaponics versus hydroponics for our growing system.

  1. Amazing! And I thought I didn't have room for fruit trees on my development lot (of course, I do...but I didn't want to take away the kick-ball/wiffle ball field). Maybe I can persuade my husband that the front yard would work well for them!
